Mike Westcott~Chemistry

Welcome to our classroom Web site. This site will be a great source of communication, filled with things like daily lesson agendas, homework assignments, class schedules, announcements, and so much more. Be sure to check back often and see what is going on!

Wow!  Here we are at the start of another school year.  I look forward to working with all students and parents as we tackle our chemistry and AP chemistry curricula. Please contact me if you have questions, concerns, comments, or would like to inquire about your student's progress.

About Me
Hi, my name is Mike Westcott. I have been a chemistry teacher here at Mingus since 1987. I also teach Advanced Placement Chemistry. I am also a graduate of Mingus, class of 1979. I enjoy fly-fishing, hunting, camping, exercise, and spending time with my family. I have seen many changes at Mingus over the years, but am still excited to see the faces of students light up when they are bitten by the “chemistry bug”.
I am a graduate of Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor’s degree in Physical education and Biology and Master’s degrees in teaching Physical Science and Instructional Leadership. I have been and am a member of the National Science Teachers Association and the American Chemical Society. I have been privileged to be named the Mingus Union High School Teacher of the month, the 1999 Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year, and the 2016 Yavapai County Teacher of the Year. I have received extensive training in the use of technology in the classroom and have attended many workshops and institutes related to the teaching of chemistry and advanced placement chemistry.
I look forward to the new school year and working with all students. Welcome!
